The Kurzweil 1000 is reading software for people who are blind or have low vision.
How it Works: This software works in conjunction with a flatbed scanner and synthetic speech to convert the printed work into speech. With Kurzweil 1000, you have your choice of either DecTalk Speech synthesizer, which comes with 9 voices and Jennifer, and reads at a maximum words per minute of 550; or FlexTalk Speech synthesizer, which comes with 14 voices and Jennifer, and reads at a maximum words per minute of 390.
